Turmeric is a pretty well-known spice, especially in South Asian cooking, but many may not realize the health benefits that come from it.

Turmeric has previously been shown to be beneficial for your brain’s mental cognition, and in some studies, may be a useful treatment for degenerative brain disorders like Alzheimer’s. Turmeric also has been found in some research to be beneficial for those that have depression. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of this spice have also been shown to be good for improving liver health, including helping to reduce the risk of liver cancer.

Are you ready to embrace the power of this spice in your daily life? Here are two turmeric recipes that will help you with that goal.

  • Turmeric For Brain Health

The ability of turmeric to improve brain function was relatively unknown until recently, when it was discovered that curcumin, the active ingredient found in turmeric, can be very helpful in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers have found that curcumin can inhibit the buildup of one of the primary causes for Alzheimer’s, beta-amyloid plaques, by a whopping 40%.

In addition to this, it was also discovered that curcumin’s powerful anti-inflammatory properties can play a major role in Alzheimer’s treatment as well, as it reduces damage caused by inflammation and oxidizing agents.

Also, there are some studies which suggest that turmeric can be used for the treatment of depression.

  • Liver Function And Cancer Prevention

Despite the fact that turmeric has been used for the treatment of liver diseases for centuries, legitimate scientific research into its effects has been conducted only in the last few decades.

According to researchers, the powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of turmeric are the reasons why this spice is so beneficial for liver health. They have found that turmeric can effectively reduce liver damage caused by ethanol (the type of alcohol that you drink), high toxicity levels, liver disease (like cholestasis), cirrhosis (scarring of the liver), and iron overdose.

Moreover, it has also been found that curcumin can reduce the risk of liver cancer. It does this by reducing the effects that human carcinogens (like thioacetamide) have on the liver.
